The theme for this year’s celebration is “413 na ang bilang ng Tamaraw,Yamang likas ng Mindoro,paramihin, pangalagaan atipagmalaki sa buong mundo.”. On October 3, 2016, a motorcade around the town proper of Sablayan were conducted as the kick-off for this event.
Some personnel from CENRO Sablayan also joined the LGU in the conduct of Information, Education and Communication Campaign in 48 Elementary and Secondary schools. Presentation regarding the conservation and protection of tamaraw were presented to 3, 254 students. The lecturers also discussed the Solid Waste Management and basic information about Apo Reef Natural Park as these topics were more applicable to the students when the environment is concerned.
The last activity for the celebration is the inter-elementary quiz bee and Secondary Poster making conducted at Siburan hall, Municipal Compound where PASu Rodel M. Boyles of Mt. Iglit-Baco National Park and ECOMS I Krystal Dayne Tendido were invited as judges. The Selinas Elementary School bagged the first prize for the quiz bee and San Vicente National Highschool for the Poster Making. These students were believed to play a great role in the endeavor of this month’s celebration, thus, they were the focus of the activities conducted. As the cliché goes, start them young: for the environment, for the tamaraws.
